Steven Covington is the Director at Hancock County Career Technical Center. He is currently in his 10th year in education with nine of those years being with the Hancock County School District. Before his employment at Hancock, Mr. Covington taught and coached at Poplarville High School in Poplarville, MS. Born and raised in Brookhaven, MS, he attended Mississippi State University where he received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from MSU.
Mr. Covington’s favorite thing about working at the Hancock County Career Technical Center is interacting with Hancock County teachers, students and residents. Hancock County has a unique culture, unlike anything that he has ever seen before. Steven shares, “People are proud to be from here, proud to have graduated from here, and they are ultimately proud to send their kids here. Hancock County is a welcoming place for all.” When he began working at Hancock Middle School ten years ago, the teachers, students and residents welcomed him as if he had lived there his entire life. With enormous school pride present and friendliness of community members, he finds it easy to collaborate when an educational issue or need arises.
Steven is married to Anna Herndon Covington, who is a registered nurse with Singing River Health Systems. Steven and Anna have one son named Kendall. He enjoys traveling with his family, watching MSU sports, fishing in the coastal Mississippi waters, and playing with his two Australian Shepherds Zoey and Penny.
